Elektrogsm.pl - redesigning an e-commerce product card
The project represents the culmination of my educational journey at the Software Development Academy. Its primary goal was to redesign the product card for Elektrogsm to enhance sales and customer engagement by improving product information and navigation. The project involved data analysis, creating a Lo-fi model, usability testing, and developing a final Hi-fi model.
Research and Analysis:
The scope of data for our analysis of the e-commerce product card and defining the main issues included a product card in PDF format, sample customer reviews, and analytical data from Google Analytics and Hotjar.
Based on the information provided, we conducted thorough data analysis and identified key issues:
Difficulty scanning product specs (due to long descriptions).
No product comparison feature.
Lack of color selection per product (each color treated separately).
Inability to select modified specifications for the same product.
Insufficient product availability info.
Irrelevant notifications for desired models.
Search function doesn't handle incomplete or erroneous inputs well.
As part of our analysis, we conducted a thorough examination of the documents and prepared both a Value Proposition Canvas and a Business Model Canvas. These strategic frameworks enabled us to identify the necessary structural changes within the store to address the specific issues we had identified.

Defining the problem
Our project's objective was to develop a product card that could cater to the user's needs by simplifying the purchasing process and making it easier to find essential information. During previous interviews, a user stated, "If I can't find the information I need immediately, I won't search for it, as there are many other websites where I'm sure it will be available." These words clearly described our problem statement - content accessibility. If the relevant information is not visible or scannable, users are more likely to abandon the website instead of searching for it. The project was divided into two phases: the group research stage and the individual stage of work, which included Lo-fi and Hi-fi models and usability tests.
Projects
I began the design process by creating a preliminary sketch and outline of how the product card should look based on the previously gathered data.
While reviewing e-commerce websites and electronics manufacturers' pages, I sought inspiration and insights into how certain issues were addressed.
The websites of Apple and Samsung left the strongest impression on me, as I drew inspiration from them for their simplicity and the scanability of their product cards.

As part of the coursework assignment, a prototype of the mobile version of the website was required. Since the research revealed that the desktop version is also an integral element of e-commerce purchases, I decided to create a prototype for the desktop version as well.
What I learned...
The goal doesn't have to be obvious...
The main objective was to redesign the website, but in reality, every project has another goal... educational. I realized that no amount of knowledge can substitute practical experience.
Practice makes perfect...
I've learned that watching tutorials or earning certificates isn't enough—improvement comes from designing, making mistakes, and applying knowledge in practice.
Planning...
Research, personas, and lo-fi prototypes are the foundation for planning a project. I realized that before using Figma, many small elements must be planned to shape the final product.
Coherence above all...
Through this project, I deepened my understanding of Material Design and its purpose. Despite initial efforts at coherence, I had to harmonize everything in the end. I learned the value of starting with a simplified version of Material Design when beginning a project—it eases navigation and integration later.
Objectivity is fundamental...
"Tastes can't be disputed," but during this project, I learned the importance of an objective approach, even when it differs from personal preferences. Opinions should only be valued if supported by research and sound reasoning.
